the san francisco randonneurs held a populaire on 6/22/14. a 112k ride through marin county with almost 5000' of climbing. i tried this ride the week before and due to the heat, getting lost, testing a brooks c17(more on that later), etc.. i gave up in fairfax, ca. 51 miles into the ride. it was way tougher than i thought it would be.
i was worried i would barely make the 7.5 hour time cutoff. my buddy preston was joining me for the ride and i figured i would be holding him back.
we took off with the lead group and soon were dropped. we felt great though! i kept saying i feel a million times better than my last attempt at this route. we made good time throughout the ride and i only really started feeling it just before the 50 mile mark. after some quick stretching and zinc application, we were off. we realized we'd finish in under 6 hours, a time we said we'd be stoked on. as we near the golden gate bridge the headwinds picked up and this proved to be not fun. haha. we finished the ride in 5 hours and were extremely stoked and enjoyed all the vegan offerings at the wonderful picnic put on post ride by the sfr volunteers. a great group of people!
last summer i was barely riding a bike and when i did, it was a singlespeed beater to go to whole foods. so i am very excited to be trying to get some 200k's done between now and the fall months.
this was the only good photo i got during the ride(kinda forgot to shoot. too stoked on crushing it).

preston pushing ahead to the nicasio control.

post ride tan line.
